What: Joico/ISO’s seven day Piidea Education Destination Caribbean cruise mixed training and travel for more than 700 hairdressers from across the country. Damien Carney presented surreal, avante garde styles, while ISO’s Ben Mollin and Sonya Landon, created fun textured looks. Sue Pemberton was on hand to share colouring techniques while celebrity colourist George Papanikolas offered his insights into star hair styles. Tabatha Coffey had no trouble swaying with the ship in her sky high Louboutin boots and her no nonsense tips for how to brand yourself.
Best Tips from the Pros:
-Tabatha Coffey suggets owners "Hire slow, fire fast." Build a salon team with proper guidelines for dismisal, have a policy manual and know about labour laws. She also recommends hiring stylists who identify with your salon's philosophy.
-George Papanikolas recommends keeping hair natural looking with soft, bohemian styles. It's much better for the hair and this type of effortless 'do is a huge trend with celebrities.
-Sue Pemberton's best advice about using a lightener: It's better to it leave on longer with 10 volume versus a higher volume with faster processing. It's less damaging to the hair.
When & Where: February 12th to 19th, in Nassau, St. Thomas, San Juan, and Gran Turk.
